You seem to come across a lot as being someone who really wishes they lived in the US. |

Well, I don't want to take away credit from the USA. It's respect. Not to mention, being the largest Christian populated nation on the planet; but that doesn;t really matter. I'd much rather wish to live in Italy. Edited by .Punxx, Jan 3 2009, 06:44 PM.

The United States, while not ideal by any means, is still the country wherein people enjoy the largest combination of economic and personal freedom. There are still some huge barriers (bans on homosexual marriage, drug laws, the government involving itself in places it doesn't belong [healthcare, the economy, education], and other idiocy), but I'd rather live here than anywhere else on earth. Other countries tend to be drifting towards either socialism (Most countries in Europe) or totalitarianism (Russia). My idea society is a libertarian one, where markets and people are free. The sole function of government should be to protect the life, liberty, and property of its citizens. As for the rest of it, I advocate personal responsibility. If everyone works to provide for themselves and their families, then society as a whole benefits. People should be able to do whatever they please, so long as it doesn't violate anyone else's rights. |

A lot of Europen countries seem to be driffting more towards Conservatism. Germany is ruled by a conservative party, France is central, Spain is socialist, the UK is more socialist-central under Labour. Could go on but Europe is pretty mixed, the UK will most probably have a Conservative party next unless Labour gains popularity again. |

Conservative by libertarian standards and conservative by European Union standards are two different things. All countries in the EU are moving towards more regulation of the economy, more government control of services, and more government control of industry. |
